Mehira's Story: Life without Access to Clean Water
Mehira Gebru, 28 years old, shares her story: “I’m displaced from Afar, Awash Sebat village. The place where I used to reside had no water shortage. We had a water tap at home, and we had no worries about safe water. However, due to the crisis, I was displaced from where I had lived for years and moved to Hintalo, Mesanu sub-district.
“My family told me this water point was constructed 10 years ago and has benefited more than 60 households. Creating access to safe water for the needy community is appreciated, and it’s near my home, just 5 minutes away. However, sometimes it is crowded as the queue is too long. I fetch 4-8 jerry cans per day. We are all committed to caring for our life-saving water point.”
At REST, we are dedicated to ensuring access to safe water for displaced communities like Mehira’s, providing essential resources for their well-being and resilience.
